About Allis Chalmers Tractor

Allis Chalmersstarted out as a small burr millstone maker in 1847. By 1979 they had grown into a $2 billion corporation and were one of the important machinery and tractor manufacturers in the United States. The original company, known as "Edward P. Allis & Company" was built by E. P. Allis of New York after acquiring a shop called "The Reliance Works". The Reliance Works' list of products included French burr millstones, portable mills, water wheels, shafting, hoisting screws and much more.

In 1869 the company expanded into steam power and soon after followed the first Allis steam engine. The company line-up grew to include steam pumps including the largest centrifugal pump in America in 1884 and the first triple expansion pumping engine two years later.

In 1901, the "Allis Chalmers" company was formed by merging the Edward P. Allis Co., Fraser and Chalmers Company and Gates Iron Works. Shortly after, a large chunk of land was purchased in what became West Allis, Wisconsin. Wanting to diversify, Allis Chalmers built its first farm tractor in 1914. The tractor business grew, and in 1928 a line of crawler tractors was started. The acquistion of several additional companies in the upcoming years, such as the LaCrosse Plow Company and Advance-Rumely added an extensive line of tillage implements, threshers and combines to the line-up.

When Allis Chalmers decided to focus on the small and medium sized farmer, they came up with new designs that turned out to be one of the most popular series of tractors ever produced. The WC tractor was first built in 1933 as a prototype tractor. Soon to follow was the Model B tractor which was very popular. Next in line was the Model C tractor which ame on the market in 1940. Followed by the Allis Chalmers CA tractor in 1950, the WD tractor in 1948 and the Allis Chalmers WD45 tractor in 1953.

Allis Chalmers continued to modernize their tractors throughout their history.

History of Backhoe

Today backhoes are commonly found on almost every construction job. It is hard to imagine any dirt moving job without some backhoe work.

Backhoes are compact and easy to maneuver. Rubber tires give it mobility to handle material and load out unused spoil from excavations. The commonly seen tractor with a front bucket and a rear mounted backhoe was first built in 1953 by a British company known as JCB. In 1957, Case Tractor Company bought out the original manufacturer. With the acquisition by Case came many improvements to the original design.

After the acquisition was complete, Case engineer Elton Long and his team brought in resources from throughout the company to finish development of an integrated loader/backhoe under a very tight deadline. By early spring, Case had successfully merged technologies to create the Case 320, the first fully integrated loader/backhoe made and warranted by one company.

The digging operation is carried out by using hydraulic power to pull the bucket back towards the tractor.

Now, the backhoe can be even more versatile with a backhoe attachment for your Bobcat or other skid steer loader. The skid loader backhoe attachment, quickly converts the skid steer into a excavator or trencher. If you need to transport, the dirt from a trenching operation, the bucket can be quickly swapped using the loaders quick attach feature.

While a traditional tractor style backhoe is highly maneuverable, nothing beats a skid steer loader for getting into small tight places. This unit is extremely well built and designed by a man who uses his own equipment in his own earth work.

Trucks and Tractors Competition

Trucks and Tractor Power was a long running weekly television show on TNN featuring mud bogging, tractor pulling and monster trucks. The show's original hosts were Stan Rhoads and former Bigfootdriver Rich Hooser, along with pit reporter Mike Goss.

Gary Lee replaced Stan Rhoads. Army Armstrong later joined as a pit reporter, and later, when Hooser left the show, became color commentator. The show initially began in 1989 as a vehicle for TNT Motorsports events, complimenting their ESPN show Powertrax and syndicated show Tuff Trax, and would typically alternate between truck and tractor pulls and monster trucks, with National Mud Racing Organization mud races intermittently.

After TNT was bought out by the United States Hot Rod Association in 1991, the show began primarily airing the Pendaliner Monster Truck Series and NMRO mud races held at Special Events' 4-Wheel and Off-Road Jamborees.

A frequent feature of these shows was a highlight segment of "Tough Truck" amateur off-road races near the end of the monster truck episodes. The final season of Trucks and Tractor Power had Gary Lee as the host at the Monster Truck Thunder Drags, and Dave Rief and Tom Rivers alternating for the Jamborees. At the end of the 1996 season, the Pendaliner cancelled their sponsorship of the monster truck series, causing the show to be subsequently cancelled.
