Choosing Model Tractor

You've got some land or property and now you need a tractor. What will you need your tractor to do? Do you need a tractor for mowing, towing, snow plowing, carrying items, gardening or harvesting fields?

Gas or Diesel?

Do you need a gasoline or diesel powered tractor? For most residential, mowing applications gasoline powered tractors are the way to go. If you have more than five acres and plan on doing some plowing, hauling, heavier mowing and adding any attachments then diesel is probably the tractor of choice.

Lawn Tractors

Lawn Tractors

Lets look first at your average lawn mower. Your average "lawn tractor" can range anywhere from $1500 - $4500 and range from 15HP- 25HP with gasoline engines. Most all lawn tractors are belt driven with limited parts availability and are designed to last a short period of time.

Garden Tractors & Compact Tractors

Compact Tractors

Next lets look at property owners that have 3 - 15 acres and the need for plowing, gardening, mowing, cutting and loading. You can consider a "garden tractor" or a "compact tractor". A garden tractor is a tractor that is really a lawn tractor with a heavier built to it and with the capability of some attachments like a tiller, a blade, snowblower and larger mower decks (usually 54in - 60in decks).

My personal recommendation for this scenario would be a "compact tractor". A compact tractor is basically a miniature tractor with full size tractor capabilities such as mowing, cutting, loading, digging, tilling, plowing and hauling. They have diesel engines ranging in size from 15HP - 30HP. The reliability of these tractors makes for a great used tractor. A new compact tractor with a mower can range from $10000 - $20000, depending on the size and model. Great used compact tractors can be found for as low as $5000.

Farm Tractors

Farm Tractors

If farming is in your future and you have many acres to tend to, you are best advised to consult with a dealer or fellow farmer before making a purchase.

Gray Market Tractors

Because good used tractors are so reliable, there is a high demand and a relatively low supply of them and good used tractors sell very quickly. A tempting way of saving money is buying an "off-brand" tractor or a gray market tractor. Many of them do not have a mid PTO which is needed if you want a belly mower. When your ready to make the purchase be sure to check here with Tractor Shopper for deals on your next new or used tractor!

Ferguson Tractor

The Ferguson Model TE20 was a British agricultural tractor. It was Harry Ferguson's most successful design, commonly known as the Little Grey Fergie.

Ferguson Tractor

History

Ferguson tractor at an orange orchard at Palinyewah, New South Wales, Australia.

The TE range of Ferguson tractors were introduced in England in 1946 following 30 years of continuous development of the 'The Ferguson System' from 1916. The automatic control system, now employed by almost all tractor manufacturers worldwide, was patented by Harry Ferguson in 1925.

During the 1930s the first complete Ferguson tractors were built and the famous 'suction side' hydraulic control system developed and put into production at the David Brown factory at Huddersfield, England. (It was this production that led in 1939 to the David Brown line of tractors).

In order to get volume production with lower costs Harry Ferguson, following a demonstration of his tractor before Henry Ford senior in October 1938, did a gentleman's agreement with Ford to produce the Ferguson tractor in Detroit starting mid 1939About 300,000 of these tractors, known 'Ford Ferguson' were produced up to June 30, 1947.

The agreement with Ford in 1938 was to include production at the Ford plant at Dagenham, Essex, UK but the UK Ford company would not do it By 1945 Ferguson had made a manufacturing agreement with the Standard Motor Company of Coventry, England to produce the Ferguson tractor incorporating all their latest improvements and to be known as the TE20, ie Tractor England.

The break with Ford left Harry Ferguson and his US company having implements to sell but no tractors. To the above figure must be added TO production at Ferguson Park, Detroit.

Find Used Tractor Prices Online

There are multiple sources where one can locate accurate estimates of used tractor prices. The most popular and respected of these sources is the Official Tractor Blue Book, published annually by Price Digests. It is much like the better known Kelley Blue Book or NADA Guides that contain information and pricing pertaining to used cars and trucks.

Used Tractor Prices Online

The Official Tractor Blue Book contains an immense range of information covering not only the suggested used tractor prices, but also the approximate cost of the tractors when they were new. It includes loan values, statistics, options, features, and serial numbers of the various implements. It also lists virtually every tractor manufactured between the late 1930s and the present time. The book is available at most online booksellers for under $20 USD.

However, there are many other methods of locating, contrasting, and comparing used tractor prices. Used tractors are prevalent on ebay and Craigslist, and a number of websites are devoted solely to the buying selling of used tractors. Some of the more popular sites include tractorhouse.com, ironsearch.com, and tractorswapper.com.

The top ten agricultural producing states are California, Texas, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Kansas, Illinois, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Indiana. It makes sense that the states with the most tractors will have the most used tractors for sale. Following the laws of supply and demand, the more similar items for sale, the lower the prices.

Sometimes, attending farm auctions will result in a discovery of the prevailing trends in used tractor prices. For most people, the best route to uncovering accurate used tractor prices is to engage in extensive research before making a purchase.

Mahindra & Mahindra | M&M History

From army vehicles to farm tractors to major automobile manufacturing, Mahindra’s relationship with American industry goes back quite a few years. American GIs who served in India during World War II recognize our parent company, Mahindra & Mahindra, which in 1945 was selected to assemble the famous Willys Jeep.

Mahindra tractors

Following Indian independence in 1947, the founders of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) were determined to chart a course of product expansion and globalization. The philosophy led to the company’s eventual entrance into the worldwide tractor market.

In 1963, M&M formed a joint venture with International Harvester to manufacture tractors carrying the Mahindra nameplate for the Indian market. Armed with engineering, tooling and manufacturing know-how gained from this relationship, M&M developed its first tractor, the B-275. This successor to International Harvester’s incredibly popular IH B-414 is still the basis for some current Mahindra models.

More recently, a joint venture between M&M and Ford Motor Company in 1995 created new opportunities for growth in the world vehicle market. A short time later, the European model of the Ford Escort began rolling off the Mahindra assembly lines. M&M's newest product, one that has burst onto the Indian market, is the Scorpio, a rugged, yet stylish new SUV that received numerous awards as the best new vehicle in India in 2002.

over one million served
Today M&M ranks among the largest tractor companies in the world with sales of over 150,000 units annually in 10 countries. In India, the largest tractor market in the world, Mahindra has been the number one selling brand since 1983.

In 1994, the company entered the American market as Mahindra USA, and in the few years since, its tough, dependable tractors are being sold and serviced by hundreds of leading tractor dealers throughout the country. Here in the United States, we perform final assembly and conduct a 51 point pre-delivery inspection, including dynamometer and road testing to ensure high standards of quality. Our focus is to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction and dealer support.

Mahindra USA now has three U.S. assembly plants that deliver tractors to more than 350 Mahindra dealers in the U.S. and Canada - and that number is growing rapidly due to high dealer and customer satisfaction. Wherever you find yourself, odds are, there's a Mahindra dealer to help you with parts, repairs, service and advice. And our dealers love Mahindra as much as our owners. In fact, in a recent survey, Mahindra ranked #1 in the nation in dealer satisfaction.

Atlantic Tractor LLC

Challenge

Even with a robust Customer Care module, some Dealers were having difficulties getting staff members to work on customer profiling and take advantage of all the information stored in the customer service database. For Gregg Rebar, Chief Operating Officer at Atlantic Tractor LLC, the issue came down to the fact that every  aspect of his Dealership Management System (DMS) was separated into silos (parts, sales, rentals, service, etc.)

without one fully integrated screen to show all info relating to a specific customer.

“If you want to improve customer management, you’ve got to integrate everything, every aspect of the Dealership Management System as it relates to your customers.

Solution

At the February, 2005, PFW conference in San Diego, Rebar met with PFW’s Frank DeDecker, VP of Development, and Ross Atkinson, VP of System Architecture and Product Design. With easy access to all information

pertaining to a single customer, Rebar hoped this new feature, which became IntelliDealer’s“Customer Portal”, would allow his staff to provide knowledgeable, efficient customer service, regardless of their department. “Customer Portal went from concept to deployment in under a year. Impact Customer Portal is fully customizable as to what information is shown, what order it is shown in on the screen, what colors are used to display the information and what information is accessible by what employees. Most importantly, it helps employees to remember to think customer first.

We are proud of the personal relationships we build with our customers,” says Atkinson.

Agriculture Tractor

Agriculture Tractor

This multitasking mechanical device called tractor, is undoubtedly, the nerve and life blood of modern agriculture.

As we discussed earlier, a tractor is the nervous system of modern agriculture. Since the entire agriculture depends largely on this machinery, tractor spares also play a pivotal role. Care should be taken while purchasing spares for tractor.

Since the entire population depends on agriculture for its survival and tractor is the main nucleus of modern agriculture, the demand for tractor spares is increasing day-by-day. In India, spares and accessories for tractors are engineered by a number of concerns.

Nowadays, when the market is full of tractor spares, it is very difficult for a farmer to choose the right tractor spare parts. Some important tractor spares and accessories are Tractor Brake Lining, Tractor Clutch Plate, Tractor Oil Seal, Tractor Push Guide, Tractor Radiator Hose, Tractor Fuel Pipe Set, Top Shaft Bush, Rocker Padaster, Gear Shifter Lever, King Pin Bearing, Fuel Injection Pipe Set, Hydraulic O-ring Kit, Engine Cam Shafts, Clutch Release Plate, Tractor Bull Gears and more.

If you are looking for tractor or tractor parts suppliers from India, I would recommend using tradeindia.com, a b2b portal that has comprehensive and updated information on tractor parts suppliers.

Tractor For Sale

Consider the following questions when shopping for a tractor.

What size of tractor do you need?

What are you going to be using you tractor for?

How often will the tractor be used?

Tractor For Sale

Is the tractor going to be used to produce income? Of course, money is often a consideration when shopping for a tractor. Consider talking to people that own tractors and get their opinions.

Tractor Size

This is obviously the most commonly asked questions regarding a tractor purchase.

Different Makes and Models of Tractors

Some parts dealers don't like to sell parts for a gray market tractor. In fact, dealers of some brands of tractors are being told by a higher authority that they cannot willingly sell parts for gray market tractors.

Diesel Engines

Make sure you get a tractor with a diesel engine. Implements also work better on diesel engine tractors.

Horsepower

In a tractor the energy is produced from torque and engine speed. A 100 hp tractor is one with a maximum of 100 horsepower available at the power-takeoff (PTO) outlet.
PTO

Consider getting a three or four cylinder tractor. Three and four cylinder tractors are generally newer tractors and run quieter and smoother than the two cylinder models.

Tractors auction

Transmissions

There are several different types of transmissions for tractors.
Manual transmissions on tractors were made to be shifted while the tractor is not in motion. Synchro Shift transmissions are basically collar shift transmissions (a type of manual transmission, see above).

Parts Manuals

Make sure there is one available for the tractor you choose.

Save Money by Buying Used Garden Tractors

For people who want to save money, used garden tractors are the best option. Used ones are a lot cheaper than new tractors.

Used Garden Tractors

Most farmers tend to buy used garden tractors in order to save more money. Garden tractor is important in maintaining your garden but nobody wants to spend too much for a new garden tractor. There is a wide variety of different used tractors in the market to choose from.

If you plan to purchase a used garden tractor, it is important to determine the required power of the tractor. Used tractors differ in horsepower engines. Remember that larger garden tractors require the use of more fuels. This means that larger tractors tend to release more harmful gases in the environment. You need to consider the size of your garden in getting a used garden tractor.

All used garden tractors are different. Consider different models of garden tractors and choose the ones that have the best appearance. Make sure that you look at the axles for the signs of seal leakage. You must look for the engines to know if the tractor needs repair. Most of them may have signs of repairs.

It is helpful to research on different price guides before purchasing a used garden tractor. You can find many online websites that provide listings and comparison of prices as well as different manufacturers of new and used garden tractors.

Used garden tractor is recommended for farmers and gardeners. With the many type of tractors available, you can have many choices of models. It is important to be careful in selecting used garden tractor so that you can have a quality tractor.

Selection Of Garden Tractors

The garden tractors were invented towards the end of nineteenth century. The early garden tractors were driven be steam engine. The diesel engine driven tractors appeared just before the First World War. The tractors were immediately adopted for various farm works, such as digging, lifting the soil and putting it somewhere else. This has greatly helped farmers in reducing manual work in farms.

Selection Of Garden Tractors

Selection Of Garden Tractors

Selection of garden tractor for your garden will depend primarily on the area you are going to cultivate or maintain with your tractor. If the area is less than an acre, you may consider buying a small tiller with 2 to 3 HP. If the area is large, say more than 5 acres and the area has large boulders which you may want to move, you will have to go in for a large tractor with 15 to 20 HP machine. If the boulders are moved by an external agency as a one-time job, then a smaller tractor will also serve your purpose of normal maintenance of your garden.

Safe Operation of Garden Tractors

Since you would be working in your garden unaided, it is necessary that you operate your tractor in a safe way. In case you have even a minor accident, it may not be possible for you to contact your family members easily. Therefore, it is necessary for you to adopt safe practices all the time.

  • Ensure that the tractor is in god working condition, and designed for work that you plan to do.

  • Use seat belts while driving tractor. Unless the tractor turns turtle, you will be safe.

  • If you are going long distance and with load, on a new path, it is a god idea to walk this section of ground and see any potential trouble that you are likely to encounter.

  • Keep you eyes on the work you are doing. Do not get distracted.

  • Do not drive with extra riders on garden tractors EVER.

Always use hand brakes after stopping the tractor or make a positive arrangement so that tractor does not move on its own due to gravity.

Fuel Saving Tips For Garden Tractors

  • Keep the tractors in trim condition.

  • Change the fuel filters regularly. Maintain the cleanliness of injectors by servicing tractor regularly. Use fuel additive to reduce fuel injector cleaning frequency.

  • Clean or change air filters regularly. Clean air and clean fuel accounts for increased fuel efficiency.

Last but not the least do not overload your tractor.

Farming Tractors Transmissions

This includes Case, New Holland, and John Deere transmissions. This makes these some of the best in the world, whether they are originals or rebuilt John Deere transmissions, Case, or New Holland.

John Deere Transmissions

The Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT) is designed to be easy to use while still providing a constant level of power and efficiency. The ability of the original and rebuilt John Deere transmissions to run at a lower engine speed increases the fuel efficiently, helping to ease the strain of higher fuel prices. What farmers like most about them is that they are easy to drive.

1947 Ford 8n

Manufactured by Ford between 1947 and 1952, at Dearborn, Michigan, the Ford 8N was a redesigned and improved version of the 9N/2N tractor line. The four-speed transmission was a prominent change made in the Ford 8N .The vehicle was more productive, sturdy, and flexible than its predecessors. The Position Control system installed in the Ford 8N allows implements to stay at a height relative to that of the tractor.

8n ford tractor

The Ford 8N tractors were equipped with automatic depth control, which allows the depth to vary. The four-cylinder engine installed in the Ford 8N generates 30 Horsepower. The tractor is equipped with a brake system with both the pedals on the right side. The steering wheel is also improved in the Ford 8N.

The tractor is equipped with new hydraulic touch control so as to avoid violation of active Ferguson patents for the position control system licensed by Ferguson. The Ford 8N was equipped with drum brakes and disc clutches. The fan belt cooling system built-in in the 8N tractor keeps the engine cool. A high-quality radiator has also been installed in the tractor. The Ford 8N became so popular in its time that various companies began manufacturing toys that were exact replicas of this tractor.

1947 Ford 8n

The maker of the product, Ford Motor Company, is commonly known as Ford. The America-based company manufactures automobiles and was established in 1903. Apart from Ford 8N tractors, Ford also manufactures and sells heavy-duty trucks, pickup vans, racing cars, compact cars etc.

The Ford 8N History

The Ford 2N eventually evolved into the Ford 8N, which officially started it's production in 1947. This was also the year the handshake agreement between Henry Ford and Harry Ferguson was ended regarding the three-point hitch. Ford would continue using the hitch, but would no longer give Harry any money nor would he call it the "Ferguson System" any longer..

The Ford 8N

This resulted in a lawsuit which eventually awarded Harry Ferguson $10 million or so. Harry went on to produce the 8N look-alike TO-20 and TO-30 but that is another story in itself... so back to the 8N. A completely new line of implements (Dearborn) was introduced. Some of the noticeable differences between the 9N/2N was the change in lugs from six to eight in the rear wheels, scripted "Ford" logo on the fenders and sides of the hood (reportedly this scripting did not actually start until late 1950) and finally, the absence of the "Ferguson System" patch which was no longer displayed under the Ford oval (even though the tractor still used Fergusons three-point hitch). The rest of the differences can be found on the Specifications page. Our intention here was just to give you a brief light-hearted look at the history behind these machines.

Used Kubota Tractors

Considerations when looking for a used Kubota tractors. Kubota manufactures outstanding tractors and it is possible to save some money by shopping for good used Kubota tractors.  Carefully inspect the tractor and verify that the engine and transmission functions properly.  Visually inspect the tractor for obvious leaks or other problems.  That important issue is what is referred to as "gray market" tractors.  Used Kubota tractors originally manufactured for use in Japan have been imported into the US for resale.  These machines were never intended to be sold in the US and often do not meet US safety requirements.  Kubota officially says that it will NOT support any gray market tractors.  Unfortunately, there are already machines like this in the US.

Used Kubota Tractors M5030

What this means is that anyone looking at a used Kubota needs to pay special attention to details that might tip the buyer off that a particular tractor is in fact a gray market machine.  Failure to notice this could result in owning a tractor that is not supported with parts or service by Kubota USA!  This would not be a pleasant situation when parts or service are needed in the future.  There are some obvious signs to look out for when inspecting used Kubota tractors.

  • Inspect all tractor warning labels and look to see if they are written in all Japanese.   Also, check to see if other identification labels (like serial tag) are written in Japanese.

  • Check to see if the tractor is equipped with safety features like seat belts, ROPS, or a PTO shield which is required on US spec tractors.

  • Look to see if safety decals are missing altogether.

  • Check tire sidewalls to see if writing is in Japanese.

  • Check if owner's manual may have a different model number than what is on tractor.  Make sure model numbers on manual and tractor match.

Used Kubota Tractors L2950 DT

These are signs that a used Kubota tractor could be Japanese spec and unsupported in the US.  It might be priced attractively, but no parts or service support from Kubota would NOT be a good deal!

Type of Agricultural Tractor

There was no "Standard Worldwide Tractor design", but the design has evolved to suit market conditions. Now in the 21st Century with the globalisation of manufacturing and consolidation of companies designs are standardising more, but still require specials for some markets and sectors. The Universal tractor is not here yet.

Agricultural Tractor

Yet in the past a lot of tractors were very similar, even though built by hundreds of independent manufactures. Various attempts have been made to redesign the Tractor. But is main purpose remains the same; to transfer tractive effort from an engine into forward pulling motion to move or pull an implement along or through the ground, as was done by horses 100 years ago.

The basic tractor is 4 wheels, the two rear ones being driven and the front two steering. A Engine is mounted in between on a gear box connected to a Rear axle. Over time this set up evolved such that the Front axle mount, Engine, gearbox and axle looked like one unit to the casual observer, with Hydraulic arms mounted on the back. This basic layout has survived for 80+ years as the predominant layout.

Agricultural tractors have evolved to be a multi tasking power source, and implement carrier for a wide range of tasks.

The First real attempt at a Universal tractor was the Agreement by Henry Ford snr and Harry Ferguson to design a new tractor to replace the Horse on farms. The new design was to Incorporate Fergusons 3 Point linkage system which would allow the use of interchangeable implements. This was to eliminate the problem of every tractor having to have its own set of implements.

Agricultural Tractors

Early implements were just pulled along and were adapted horse drawn implements. A lot of these needed two men to operate, as one still walked behind like with the horse drawn version, this being very inefficient.

John Deere Tractors

The company is famous for its tractors and the tractors are well received in the market. We will examine one tractor carefully and read about the pros and cons of this tractor as a representative of the company. We would select the tractor with the smallest power as a home gardener we will be interested in the smaller size tractor.

The model we have selected is the 2210 4WD compact tractor.

The Power plant: The features of the tractor look very good and power plant gives 23 HP, through a liquid cooled engine.

Other features: The tractor has a 4-wheel drive and the 4 wheel to 2 wheel drive can be selected when the tractor is working.

Driver comfort: It features hydraulic transmission so you do not have problems in shifting gears while driving. The controls are operated through Twin TouchTM two-pedal foot control. The engine is mounted on isolators and hence the engine vibrations are not transmitted to the driver decreasing driver fatigue.

Engine Reliability: The engine is reliable and works up to the last drop of fuel. Costs: The tractor retails at prices starting from $10,000 upwards.

John Deere Tractor

Attachments to the tractor: The tractor is versatile and can take up many attachments. One such attachment is the 54-inch blade that can turn the tractor into a front-end loader. The attachment features a concave surface blade with heavy gauge construction with reinforcing angle added to the rear of blades for added strength.

Tips Before You Buy Backhoe

If you are checking for some efficient backhoes for sale, you might want to consider a skid steer loader that has a backhoe loader or even a backhoe attachment as it is very productive once operated in a safe and efficient manner.

backhoe loader

One way of knowing if you are eying good backhoes for sale is by checking a prospective model's safety features. Excellent quality backhoes must feature efficient frame lock and attaching levers that should fasten the backhoe securely to the frame of the loader during the operation process and transport.

While it is important to check on the safety features of backhoes for sale, you must also see if your prospective model provides safety chains.

The backhoe is the most ingenious piece of modern construction equipment on the market today. When looking to buy used backhoes for sale, one of the first things to consider after you're done a test drive, is the proper inspection of the used backhoe. Look for signs of fluid leaks and concealed rust spots to find potential problems. Check underneath the vehicle for evidence of leaks. Used backhoes are much cheaper than brand new ones, but you must take into consideration the maintenance costs.

If the used backhoe for sale is purchased from an equipment dealer, sign a service contract with the dealer, whereby they have several parts departments within your state. Making calculations when purchasing a good used backhoe, is paramount in your decision making. In order to make this determination, get new backhoe pricing info versus used backhoe pricing info on the brand you have chosen, from a manufacturer, or go online and surf the web to find this information, and use it as a guide towards a good buying decision.

Combine Tractor

A combine harvester is a machine that combines, threshes and cleans grain plants providing seeds and straw in the process. It relies on different combine harvester parts to achieve the end purpose of harvesting.

Combine Tractor HARVESTER

Brief History

Traditional combine harvesters were huge machines drawn by horses or mules and equipped with a bull wheel for power. Tractor-drawn and PTO-powered combine harvesters were brought in after a while and these were followed by the contemporary diesel engine combines. Subsequently, the design of the combine harvesters improved with the introduction of rotary design in the 1970s.

Rotary Design

In the traditional design, a rotating cylinder was one of the most significant combine harvester parts and was relied upon to remove the seeds from the heads.

Combine Heads

Combine harvesters consist of different parts that work together to provide the desired results. Heads or headers are perhaps the most relevant combine harvester parts; these heads are removable and are designed especially for different crops.

The standard head or platform header is used for grains, legumes and seed crops. Draper heads are more efficient in threshing but expensive in overall costs.

Corn head is used for corn and has snap rolls such that it improves efficiency greatly.

Farmers rely on combine harvesters to improve the threshing ability and the overall efficiency of the harvesting process.

Combine Tractor

Costs

Combine harvesters are huge engineering machines that require a lot of manpower and other resources for their construction. Lexion is a leading manufacturer of combine harvesters that specializes in combine harvesters and other combine harvester parts like headers. The Internet has a wealth of information on combine harvester parts as well as used combines. It is extremely crucial to maintain a list of suppliers who are stocked with the required combine harvester parts that are compatible with one’s combines.

Caterpillar Tractor

The first moving machines that could be considered Tractorswere steam driven machines developed in the 1870's. In 1904 Daniel Holt was successful at his first steam driven track type tractor, which was further developed into a gas driven track type tractor in 1906. This merger was successful and Caterpillar Tractor Co. was supplying diesel powered tractors in 1931, from its assembly line in Illinois, USA.

Caterpillar Tractor

John Deere Tractor Parts : Guide

I am the proud owner of a john deere tractor parts. Rarely do I have any troubles with it, but occasionally I have to replace some parts. Even the highest quality machines, like the John Deere, will need work done on them at some point - even if it's just routine maintenance.

John Deere Tractor Parts Guide

I've found that my John Deere is easy to work on, and the manual provides great direction on how to repair it. Because John Deere is such a popular brand, finding parts is not hard at all...but finding affordable John Deere parts can be a bit more difficult. The dealers will have all john deere tractor parts you'll ever need and can easily order it for you if they don't currently have it in stock. They may even carry some used parts that will work great for whatever your repair. When I need a part for my John Deere garden tractor, I usually start by calling the dealer first to ask if they have any used parts. If not, I then ask how much it would cost for the new replacement part and jot the amount down. By doing this, I also get the exact name of the part I need and write this down as well.

After this, I get online and try to find the part cheaper elsewhere. Often, I can get a cheaper used or new part online and have it shipped to my house. Of course you have to factor in the shipping costs when looking for parts this way, but a lot of the suppliers have already taken this into account and have priced their parts accordingly.

By doing this method of research, you can save yourself some money but still get what you need for your John Deere equipment. There are a wealth of john deere tractor parts suppliers on the web and, with a little time, you should be able to find what your looking for at a reasonable price. If you do happen to run stuck, the dealer will always have what you need. John Deere dealers can also provide some great support on how to install the item if you need help. Since I'm not a mechanic by trade, I can use a little help occasionally. I have a few great John Deere dealers in my area and check in with them for the more difficult repairs I encounter with my John Deere mower.

Once you've located the part, you have to install it. Unless you're a really skilled mechanic with john deere tractor parts, this usually requires a good manual. I rely on mine for anything outside of the regular maintenance ie. servicing it, airing up tires etc. If you don't have a manual for your John Deere, you can also purchase these from the dealer or try to find a new or used one online. There are many sources for used manuals available online. If you type the name/model of your John Deere into your favorite search engine, you should easily find what you're looking for.

Belarus Tractor

Belarus is a series of four-wheeled tractors produced since 1950 at the Minsk Tractor Plant, MTZ (Мінскі трактарны завод; Ми́нский тра́кторный заво́д, МТЗ) in Minsk, Belarus.

Belarus Tractor

These tractors are very well known throughout the former Soviet Union, and have been exported to the Eastern Bloc, as well as other countries (even to the United States).

Belarus supplies 8% of the world's tractors

History

After World War II, Minsk, Belarus was pretty much in ruins. The Soviet Union, as part of the rebuilding process, founded MTZ and built a large tractor factory in Minsk. This factory is still considered to be one of the largest tractor factories in the world.

When the Soviet Union started exporting tractors to other countries, the exporting company named itself after the territory with the main factory, so the tractors were branded with the name Belarus.

The tractors ranged from crawlers (with undercarriages based on tanks) to four-wheel drive tractors. A large range of attachments were available for the tractors, so bulldozers, backhoes and front-end loaders were based all on the same machine.

When Belarus gained independence the tractor brand was renamed from "Беларусь" to "Беларус".

MTZ Belarus Tractor

Mechanical description

Belarus tractors until the late 1980s were mechanically very simple, intentionally designed for farming areas with limited access to tools. Oil filters used a centrifuge to separate the particles, and tractors were available only with a manual transmission.

The diesel engines are of Belarus' own design, being either air or liquid cooled. They use a variety of methods to start them, from an electric starter with a kerosene heater to heat the intake air, to using a two-stroke starting engine. Various measures on the tractor have also been implemented to aid starting in cold weather, including a lever to disconnect the hydraulic pump, and a shutter for the radiator.

The three-point hitch is operated by a hydraulic cylinder, and is one of the few tractor designs that can apply "Down Pressure" with the three-point hitch.

In North America, Belarus tractors were attractive in the form of supplying larger tractors for lower prices.

Vintage Tractor

If you are reading this article, then you must have an interest in vintage tractors.

vintage tractors

Its very important they you test all the basic mechanics of the tractor, so take time to test the steering, gears, forward and reverse, PTO, lift, lights, indicators and hydraulics.

You should have a detailed check list which included at a minimum the following: does it start easily from cold, run well when hot, all the electrical components work well, does it have good traction If possible you should go to your test armed with a toolbox containing a compression tester, expensive Fluke digital multimeter, hydrometer, and other specialty tools.

How easily does it start from cold? One key thing to watch out for is if the tractor is out and warmed up prior to your arrival, you lose an important checklist item, namely the cold start, because as we all know a warm engine starts much more easily then a cold one..

How well does it run when warm - Getting it hot is a must if you want to find out how it will work after you plowed the first row.

Are the brakes working well - Although the brakes are inexpensive to replace, they are inaccessible on many tractors and will require extensive teardown to get the new ones in.

Does it smoke - Blue smoke spells trouble like rings, pistons, or valve guides. White or black smoke can oftentimes be fixed with carburetion or ignition changes but still means work. The clunk should be more pronounced under load. Chattering noises from the pump while lifting indicate the pump is not getting enough supply of hydraulic fluid. The pump may have experienced excessive wear when run this way for long periods of time and may be about to fail.

Tractor Farm Best Solution for Farming

Tractors are an essential part of a farmer's equipment and they don't come cheap-which is why the market for used tractors is booming. With the advent of the internet, you can now look for used tractors worldwide.

Tractor Farm

Dealers that sell their used tractors through eBay, such as Save on Farm Machinery are a great option. eBay is a reputable service that charges the seller fees, not you.

One great tool in searching for the perfect used tractor is the Used Tractor Price Guide. This 328-page book has comprehensive information about virtually all of the farm tractors that were built from 1939 to 2003.

The Used Tractor Price Guide details forty-four different tractor manufacturers and will probably cover just about any tractor you end up looking at. This price guide is an invaluable tool that will allow you to decide if a seller is charging too much for a particular tractor. Look and see where the tractor is located.

Used tractors that look beat up have probably not been cared for properly. Check out the axles for signs of leaking seals. Inspect the engine for any signs of repair or damage. Most used tractors will probably have signs of engine repairs; it's inevitable for any machinery. If the tractor has two pedals, make sure that both pedals actually work.

Tractors with narrow front ends tend to easily roll over on hills, causing injury or even death. All in all, if you are in the market for a tractor, your best option is to go for a used tractor.
